Seungkyung Oh
Born 1992 in South Korea. Lives and works in South Korea
Seungkyung Oh is an international award-winning artist who uses nature and fantasy to re-imagine the world in multiple dimensions. A shy person by nature, she finds refuge in dreamlike environments, away from the din of modern life and society.
In her paintings, reality is idealised through the depiction of exceptionally beautiful flowers and plants, bright colours, lines and silhouettes. Her other-worldly landscapes encapsulate the extra-terrestrial and mystical, aiming to liberate the viewer from the strains of reality and offer a charming experience of utopia.
Seungkyung Oh holds a PhD in Painting from Seoul Sangmyung University, a BA in Fine Arts from the School of Visual Arts and a MFA from Parsons School of Design, New York. She has been awarded with the "North Georgia Distinguished Fellowship 2019", the "IBM Blue wolf Company Award 2017" in New York City, and the "Korean Culture Minister Prize for Painting in 2010".
Oh participated in more than thirty solo and group exhibitions some of which including: Kayaking Through A Rainbow, Gallery Wolhae, Seoul (2022); I want to be a Flower, Space Kyeol, Seoul (2022); Young Artist Exhibition, Space Kyeol, Seoul (2022); Mimesis of Utopia, Cyart Gallery, Seoul (2021); Our Life In A City, Seoul City Hall, Seoul (2021); Other Wilds, IPG BOX, Seoul (2020).
